Working alongside partners worldwide

Published on

Over many years the EMS Cooperative has welcomed opportunities to work closely with regional associations. Having EMS representation at events hosted by different groups helps ensure that EMS Cooperative objectives are integrated and aligned with the local regional initiatives.

Regional events have proven to be an excellent way to build strong, mutually-beneficial support networks for postal operators around the world. Already in 2025, the EMS Cooperative has taken part in PostEurop and Asian Pacific Postal Union events.

PostEurop and the EMS Cooperative fostering collaboration among European postal operators

The EMS Cooperative is regularly represented at workshops on operational performance and data, organized by PostEurop, an association representing European postal operators. As discussions at PostEurop often include ways to modernize and innovate postal services, the EMS Cooperative’s presence means it can stay at the forefront of these changes, helping to maintain competitive express service offerings, particularly in the face of growing competition.

Being represented allows the EMS Cooperative to advocate for the needs of express mail services in policy discussions, especially as Europe addresses logistics, customs, digital transformation, and sustainability. It gives EMS a voice in shaping regulations that could impact delivery standards, cross-border e-commerce, and operational efficiency.

In April, the EMS Cooperative was invited to provide an update at the most recent PostEurop meeting attended by 56 participants from 35 operators. The EMS Unit provided performance analysis for operators and introduced new EMS projects for 2025 which were well received. Dražen Ladiš, Dražen Ladiš, Chair of PostEurop Performance & Operations Working Group summarized,“The role of EMS Cooperative at PostEurop meetings is to share the knowledge, experiences, initiatives, ideas and visions to the PostEurop members in helping them to improve the quality of the EMS services as the fastest cross-border postal product worldwide."

APPU EMS training participants March 2025

Celebrating 18 years of EMS Cooperative training at the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU)

One of the longest collaborations has been between the EMS Cooperative and the Asian Pacific Postal Union (APPU), an intergovernmental organization of 32 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The APPU aims to improve postal relations between its 32 member countries, in particular APPU supports the interests of smaller and lower income members through representation at Universal Postal Union meetings.

Back in 2007, for the first time, the EMS Unit was delighted to be invited to deliver its own four-day EMS Cooperative Performance Improvement workshop. Since then, each year, the EMS Unit has delivered training specifically on the work of the EMS Cooperative to APPU members. The workshops are part of the annual EMS course organized by the Asian-Pacific Postal Union (APPU) in collaboration with the UPU, within the framework of the regional postal development plan for the Asia-Pacific region.

The most recent training took place in Bangkok, in March 2025. Over a week, the EMS Cooperative Regional Coordinator for Asia Pacific provided 17 EMS managers from 10 operators with the skills and capabilities needed to manage their EMS operations. The training focussed on mastering the EMS Cooperative Business Plan; improving understanding of EMS measurements and reports; understanding the support available to operators and finally, to facilitate the development of an action plan for each operator, aimed at improving service performance for EMS.

“Showing up matters — EMS representation underscores the EMS Cooperative’s commitment to working alongside partners and demonstrates its importance within the larger postal ecosystem.”
